Personal statement:
I am a health psychologist by training and my passions lie in applied health and environment research, centred on issues related to public and animal health, health inequalities, and how the interactions between humans and their environments influence health outcomes. My work is situated in the context of ‘One Health’, which is an approach that emphasises the intertwining of human, animal, plant, microbial and environmental health. I believe that we cannot have healthy humans and thriving human societies if we do not also have healthy, thriving, biodiverse ecosystems.
My research has focused on two core areas:
- Understanding how psychological and social factors can influence antimicrobial usage in livestock, to help mitigate the growing threat to human and animal health from antimicrobial resistance – for example, exploring the views of veterinarians, farmers and veterinary students towards antimicrobial stewardship
- Understanding how aspects of different environments can influence health and wellbeing outcomes – for example, exploring how the physical and social environment can influence levels of work fatigue amongst homeworkers or how engaging with nature on social media can influence emotional wellbeing
I currently work as a Knowledge Exchange Fellow for ACCESS, supporting the Capacity Building workstream. I am a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and a Registered Health Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council. I currently represent the Division of Health Psychology on the British Psychological Society’s Climate and Environment Action Group.
