Rapid Evidence Summary of Defra’s 25-Year Environment Plan

Our first piece of work was commissioned by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra).

The ACCESS Rapid Response team was asked to help look at their 25-year environment plan. This is a comprehensive plan for England’s natural environment which sets out the government’s approach to maintaining and enhancing the natural environment over the next 25 years (Defra, 2018). As part of the requirements of the Environment Act 2021, Defra were (July 2022) undertaking an evaluation and refresh of the 25 YEP.

Our Rapid Evidence Summary provided an overview of how the 25 YEP has been discussed and referenced within environmental social science literature from 2018 to the present.

Outputs

We provided:

  • A list of research papers that mention or refer to the 25 YEP in some detail
  • An overview of the topics and interests of these papers
  • A detailed overview of key papers that a) cover the 25 YEP in detail and b) raise points of reflection for the future of the Plan.
  • Links to, or copies of, all key papers
