The Data Working Group consists of researchers and practitioners from partner institutions and organisations across the ACCESS network including: University of Exeter, University of Surrey, University of Bath, University College London, DEFRA, ONS, Natural England, NatureScot, Natural Resources Wales, Plymouth Marine Laboratory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Data Working Group identified that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Finding good quality climate and environment social data sources to support social scientists in research or policy decisions relating to the climate and environment can be tricky due to the range of disparate sources where data is hosted. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accessing and using the data itself can also sometimes be difficult due to its complexity. Therefore some help and support to use the data would be useful.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Having a list of useful data sources related to the climate and environment would be a welcome tool for social scientists working in this area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The aim of the ACCESS Data Exchange is therefore to provide an online portal to address these issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By providing a range of climate and environment social data sources, the data exchange is a resource for social scientists to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Identify datasets that include information on climate and environment social measures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use additional information and &#8216;quick start guides&#8217; on these datasets to aid their use in research or to support policy decisions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What the Data Exchange DOES and DOES NOT do<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Data Exchange <strong>does<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Provide a search engine for finding climate and environment social data sources relating to areas within the UK (United Kingdom)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Present further information about these datasets including time period, location, type of data, link to data source<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cover datasets relating to locations within the UK<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Point to data access policies for each dataset<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Signpost resources to support users in accessing and using this data and\/or provide quick start guides<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Highlight any publications or studies this data has been used for (where known!)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Data Exchange <strong>does not<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Host datasets or allow download of data from this portal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Include appraisal of the quality or suitability of datasets for projects<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide training in the use of data<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide a comprehensive list of ALL datasets relating to the climate and environment (if you would like to add a dataset to our search list, please <a href=\"https:\/\/accessnetwork.uk\/dataexchange\/contact\/\">contact us<\/a>!)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Background Through the ACCESS project, a Data Working Group was formed to establish the data needs of social scientists working within the climate and environment space.
