The Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformations (CAST) is a global hub for understanding the systemic and society-wide transformations that are required to address climate change.

CAST undertook this set of global surveys with over 3000 participants from Brazil, China, Sweden and the UK. From the people asked, they found that a large majority from across borders, age divides and financial backgrounds are positive on the need for action on climate change.

About the dataset

CAST runs an annual survey in the UK and three partner countries (China, Sweden, Brazil) every year. Each survey aims to explore public perceptions of climate change, policy support and willingness to change behaviour towards more low carbon lifestyles.

Accessing the data

The CAST Data Portal currently provides access to the first wave of public survey data collected by CAST in 2020, which focuses on the UK, China, Brazil and Sweden. This includes attitudinal perspectives on climate change, policy measures and willingness to make lifestyle changes.

A summary of the second wave of survey data, collected in 2021, is available in CAST Briefing 10.

Data is available via four dashboards:

    • Public perceptions dashboard;

    • Lifestyle dashboard;

    • Policy dashboard;

    • Key insight summaries.

Using the data

Users are encouraged to download the Data Portal infographics and dashboard visualisations to use in their public engagement work.
