I am Senior Specialist in Social Science at Natural England (2022- present) and have previously held research and teaching positions at Newcastle University (2013-2022), Newcastle University Singapore (2015-2016) and the University of Kent (2022). As an independent interdisciplinary researcher, I have worked on multiple international, interdisciplinary research projects across agri-food and nature recovery disciplines. My research has used a broad range of qualitative methods including semi-structured interviews, focus groups, systematic reviews, expert elicitation via Delphi, ethnography and most recently oral histories.
My academic work is centred in the agri-food domain and was focused across three key areas;
1) consumer attitudes towards food authenticity
2) understanding the adoption trajectories of Precision Agriculture (PA)
3) the development of high-integrity ecosystem service markets
At Natural England I deliver commissioned research and advise on social science research. I currently lead on social science input to the DEFRA funded Marine Natural Capital Ecosystem Assessment programme (mNCEA). Current work is focused on demonstrating the importance of diverse values insights for supporting place-based marine decision-making and developing tools to support the identification of private investors for marine nature recovery.
